Otto Dix, At the Mirror (1921)
Otto Dix’s portrait of a prostitute standing before a mirror and readying herself for a night’s work was provoked obscenity charges, of which the artist was subsequently acquitted on a plea of “verisimilitude”. However, the painting, unfortunately, vanished in the Nazi purge.
